Hi all

Welger RP435
Anyone know why the sprocket arrowed in picture has a ratchet type assembly inside? I prosume it lets the roller free wheel but why? I'd like to put a normal sprocket on there because a new is far from cheap.

That 2nd driven sprocket is what they call a silage kit, presumably to drive the belts using both rubber rollers in tough conditions. My neighbour had bother in there and 'removed' the kit as he was only doing straw. I imagine that either the sprocket was left freewheeling on the shaft, or removed completely and chain shortened. Cost was also his motivation.

There are decent parts books online so you could see what's in the kit to establish what you could safely remove. I can't comment if there would be issues driving the belts off the single roller, as, touch wood, I've not had any bother on my 520/545.

Your right about the parts manuals, took some finding but really good. Also right about the silage kit there is an option of a roller without a sprocket. We don't do much silage and it's not normally heavy wet stuff so I'm thinking about removing the sprocket and shortening the chain. Got to be worth a try before spending well over a grand on parts.

Presume the splines have worn off the roller and sprocket?
You can remove the sprocket and shorten the chain, might be better to make up a spacer with a bit of pipe to keep tension on the roller to stop it floating to the rh side.
If you do end up replacing it, put the new style one from a 445 into it, it works out cheaper for all the parts and it wont happen again.

Yes the roller splines are gone and the internals for the hub has had it. We shortened the chain and removed the sprocket. Run well nice and smooth but we will see what it's like on silage next year. Thanks for the info on the other type of shaft I'll have a look into that if it needs replacing. Any idea what's the difference between the rollers on a 445? Thanks

Same thing happened to me, changed shaft once because of worn splines, now gone again. As above have cut off the splined part of shaft and put roller back in with no sprocket and shortened the drive chain. Does it work ok? Can’t see why it shouldn’t?
