Are these bale unwinder any good?

Have the chance of one of these type machines for 1300 are they good at putting bales out down a passage way?

Chap I know invented them years ago and sold the patent. There were loads sold and thrown in hedges to rot so I am surprised they are getting so popular again. Maybe better engineered now?

heaps of them in use in NZ work very well
some of the early ones were open on the bottom with just chain and slats no good for finer chopped bales
trick is watch for lumps coming off. so at times a bit of stop start on controls

Think @kill Tried one to put into feed troughs.

Was a complete disaster with his chopped bales.
Chopping with 15 blades and bales just fell to bits on the machine and as soon as tried to restart it just heaved the lot off on the floor . Supplier tried 2 different models and sent a tech out with the second but both were returned to supplier thankfully

I have a sl360x I can unroll a roller baler bale down the front of a feed barrier in under a minute works best if you have the bale on the right way round but I unroll of both sides and rarely lose a bale off it never got round to putting retainer bars on it like the one above

we had one for a winter i found our tight silage bales kept bouncing around it not unrolling then the machine would heave the bale of in one go if you were lucky in one lump was good out field for dry hay for dry 🐮

Good machine, well built. I unroll wet / dry bales with it along feed fence, as others have said there no good for getting feed into a feeder . Unwinds both ways.

Excellent things, we’ve put thousands of bales through ours. how well they work depends on what the bales are like. Sometimes get cursed by father when the bales are like rock (belt bales) and there that tight they won’t unwind but normally there fine. We chop with half the knives in which is a good compromise between them not flying to and coming apart nicely.

My last “investment” for a while hopefully. Should save me pushing bales down the feed passage....................... for a very very long time to come!

Never tried moving a post from one thread to another hope this works!! This is my bale unroller with loading arm, so far I have put about 100 bales through it mainly feeding out in the field and it is fantastic. Much easier than pushing bales of hay down the passage when indoors too.

Bit like putting clamp into an controller.
Benefit of a chopped bale for intakes, disadvantage on handling.

Probably bale with 8 knives in would unroll ok if you can keep the sides in.
