As above. Anybody applying any/already done so? Or does no one bother any more due to resistance/late drilling? Was quite a hot topic 2 autumns ago.

It's my kill it all chem for the spring, mind you I don't have resistant black grass yet and intend to stay that way..! As yet a few well timed evenings walking every tramline let's me pull the few BG plants that appear.

If you have noticeable blackgrass appeared there now, I would consider blatting it out now.

The problem with leaving it until spring is that the plants will be larger, possibly even tillered out and there could be more crop interception of the spray.

The spring can be an issue because often it does not warm up any sense until much later into it.

Have 4ha l was considering but don’t feel it’s likely l will get a window. Topped up my pre-em too so plan on waiting until spring. A few wild oats in that field so at least should get them.

Yes, going on Sunday. 4 fields on a new farm that are going Zero Til into OSR next year, to mitigate risk to the OSR. Don’t remember the last time I’ve done autumn Atlantis/generic.

Bit off topic, but having just gone over some ground with some manganese, the BG control has been ace, but the wheat has had a shock!

We did ours between Mon and Thurs, when the weather allowed, on wheat drilled between 3rd and 14th October. Rightly or wrongly - we aim to drill first couple of weeks of October and then follow 5-6 weeks later with Atlantis, when the blackgrass is still just 1-2 leaves. Pre-ems have done a brilliant job so far, and have put some extra flufenacet in with the Atlantis to help control any late germinators.

I still find we are getting sufficient control to justify its use, but it needs to be to small plants. I find many people are keen to say Atlantis does not work, but base this statement on blackgrass waving its head in May/June. Some of these head bangers may have emerged after application. I'm not a fan of spring applications - the blackgrass is too big if drilling early October - may be fine for later sowings.

I know it no longer works for some but if I can still see the effects of treatment in the couple of months after application I'll continue, so fingers crossed for this year. I have a couple of small part fields where Atlantis no longer gives sufficient control - these part fields have been put down to a 4 year ley, and will follow with OSR and take it from there.

Barley and oats have had an even bigger shock here from the pre-ems. Crop effects usually means its doing a good job on the target weeds - but some crops do look horrible and will do over winter now.

Pre ems also hammered barley here , also not helped by wet ground. What rate of manganese [ 15% ] would be required to boost some very sick looking barley ?

You ideally want a manganese product that is manganese nitrate and manganese sulphate combined. These two work faster than manganese carbonate.

I can't remember what nutriphyte is, I dare say if it is cold and wet a couple of litres of foliar phosphate in the tank with the manganese would not hurt, either.
