Ayrshire Turbine blow up

Location
East Mids
We had a runaway following a brake failure with our E3120, a few months after it was commissioned, in 2016 when Mosscliffe went bust. It is a HORRIBLE feeling. We had no comms to warn us of this, (as they had not paid the data bill nor alerted us to the fact) and luckily I noticed a swishing in the wind. We spoke to one of the maintenance companies who were brilliant as we didn't even have a contract with them and they dealt with Endurance for us. It was in a period of really windy weather and fortunately Endurance had extra tech guys over from Canada.

A Canadian guy took advantage of a narrow window in the wind to stop it from the ground with some special piece of kit and then go up and put the secondary brakes on. At one point it looked like he might have to do this at night o_O with my husband as safety backup (on the floor but ready to let him down if he slipped, before his safety harness killed him if he dangled for too long). Fortunately it didn't come to that. It had been out of control for about 48 hours and we had been told it wasn't much longer before it would self destruct like this one.

Then Endurance brought a load of subcontracted tech guys over from Holland to sort out the fallout from the storm, as there was a lot of damage round the country, and they stripped ours down and replaced everything that was a bit scorched or damaged.

Thank God it was all covered under warranty before Endurance went bust too (and warranty invalidated) else it would have cost us a fortune, we had only just paid for the thing and had 3 months generation before all this happened!

When we entered into this project, I never envisaged it would be such a massive feeling of relief to see our turbine STOPPED - I hardly slept a wink in the night before it was brought to a halt (at about 8 am the next morning).
