Bac scans through the roof for weeks, stood with the tank wash and seen the tank pump wasn't flinging the water in the tank, changed the tank pump next 2 days got it 24/25 then the bloody thing went up to 75 again! Annoyingly! It's just iv never had a text at lunchtime before, I have noticed the additional tests texts are sent at various times whereas paid tests are 6.01-6.05 Am every time

Only have one test a week here so they all count to payment, but they do come through at anytime

We were having issues earlier in summer and couldn't find anything wrong. Turned to the dairy engineer who spent several hours checking the plant but couldn't find anything either. After a month or two the problem just dissapeared, weren't sure what we'd done but checking/cleaning everything we'd obviously improved something.

Several weeks later I saw the tanker driver and stopped for a chat, I don't usually see him as he comes at dinner time but this day I was late.
"How's your bactoscans now?" He asked.
Fine I said we were having problems a few months back.
"I know he said, everyone was, there was a problem with the milk sampler on the lorry, I'm now taking samples by hand."

So it wasn't my problem yet I'd spent time and money trying to solve a problem, it would have been nice if the dairy had at least admitted to a problem at there end.

Quite often on a Saturday our text will come later in the day but generally the rest of the week it is here at 6am. Don't see any difference in results because the text comes later.

I sometimes get the results late and high bactoscan, I suspect a delay in testing, only seems to happen during school holidays, I'm guessing short staffed lab
Exactly what I wanted someone else to say! Considering she there's a bit of money at stake, things could be done better. But I'm in the routine of getting extra tests so I have cause for appeals. We had a fat of 3.75 on day, 4.1 the next, appealed and got the 4.1 toward payment!

If fat and cell count gone up that can be poor sampling technique

Ours did this 3 years ago..back of the pick up Tanker was full of cheese over his pipe, he pulled the pipe out with gloves on and took a milk sample with the same gloves on..4-5 farms in the area suffered from a dirty tanker!!

My bactoscan has rocketed recently so done a bacto break down test, all I can say is that it's Sod's law that the pick up before the test the bactoscan was 194 and pick up after the test 151 where as the pick up where it was tested the bacto was 18 :banghead:. My milk buyer has told me not to waste more money on doing that test again but do another test called a "parlour sweep" where they somehow test the sample to see if the bactoscan is parlour related e.g. Dirty teats contaminating the milk or the wash out line isn't washing out properly. So just awaiting that result now to see what that throws up, knowing my luck the bactoscan will drop on that pick up:rolleyes:

We had a really high count so phoned lab to take an extra sample . Called couple days later and she said whatever you did worked it’s down to 4 . I did nothing !!!

More recently though summer it has been high . I think the tank washer is goosed. Needs cleaned regularly by hand now .

I'm thinking we need one of those breakdowns. It got back down to 25 from 39 the day before! I'm needing a bacto of 18 next test to not have a 3 month average of over 30. Pressures on
