Today I never left the house. Constapation to start with then the runs after that.
Get this kind of thing more often now, used to be regular as clockwork
Is it just getting older or do I need to be worried?

What does the better half say? She is generally very knowledgeable (y)

I would say it is probably one of those times to see a Doctor. IBS or similar due to stress or body becoming less resilient as you get older. But, it could be something that needs treating NOW and not in a couple of years time.

http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Irritable-bowel-syndrome/Pages/Symptoms.aspx

Main symptoms
The most common symptoms of IBS are:

  • abdominal (stomach) pain and cramping, which may be relieved by having a poo
  • a change in your bowel habits – such as diarrhoea, constipation, or sometimes both
  • bloating and swelling of your stomach
  • excessive wind (flatulence)
  • occasionally experiencing an urgent need to go to the toilet
  • a feeling that you have not fully emptied your bowels after going to the toilet
  • passing mucus from your bottom

Im the same, couldeat anything until xmas and get pains in my gut etc, i did a private blood test and have a positive food intolerance waiting for official results.
Ive Got to go to hosp for a camera down mite have a hernia/stomach ulcer/and have excess acid, diffrence of days and what i eat, a mouthful of gaviscon seams to help til next meal
Your worth just adjusting your diet like try to cut out gluten or dairy or fried fatty foods to see if it helps
Then reintroduce them 1 at a time an if you start to feel ill then kind of know what food groups trigger it
Best to see gp if symtoms persist get worse or pain moves

I've been diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome. Apparently it affects up to 1 in 5 adults at some time in their lives.

They did all sorts of tests to make sure that there wasn't anything else (scope both ends, blood for things like celeriac disease, cancer). They did find a hernia that causes acid reflux.

Treatment for IBS is imodium for when the skitters start. It works wonders, makes it possible to leave the house without worry of explosive consequences.

I stopped drinking caffeine which helped a lot, and have found high fat foods like cheese seem to make things worse.

I've never been constipated though @multi power, I'd get a quack to check you out in case there's something else.

In the mean time, take imodium. There's no point suffering with the runs.

My mum had IBS for most of her life ,wasnt untill she got rushed into hospital with gripping stomach cramps bit over 3 years ago did she find out it was much worse ,it devoloped into squaremocell carsinoma and by the time they operated it was too late .
Get yourself of to your gp and get it checked out ,if my mum had lived she would have needed a colostomy bag for the rest of her life

It's surprising how many people have bad guts / bowel problems....and that's from the ones who are brave enough to admit there's a problem. I know of 2 local people, one a v good friend, who have had to have a colostomy bag. My friend had it because of crohn's and collitus. The thought of it sends shivers down my back, but they cope with it really well and live perfectly normal lives. If it wasn't for them saying they had one, you wouldn't even know about it. In fact, I admire how they carry on with life and their bravery.

Go and see the quack about it @multi power . chances will be there's bugger all wrong, but if there is, best to catch it ASAP and get it treated.

There's also diverticulitis which affects you more as you get older.
Basically pips and things get trapped in little pockets in your intestines, go rotten and give you the squits from what I can make out from my dad.
All easily diagnosed. Mums celiac. Im gluten intolerant. Brothers crohnes.
We're all about as much use as a chocolate teapot.
But it doesn't hold us back;)

He normally has a fried breakfast, lately he's been eating malted wheaties and cornflakes for breakfast so he has changed things in his diet, his mum was diagnosed with bowl cancer a couple of years ago, so I told him if he's worried make an appointment with the doctor
Yep thers no point being stuborn they arnt handing out medals to see who can get the most ill before they see a doc!
I always gets grinding sparks an metal in my eyes stupid eye know...
But used to put off til last minute i knew i would have to go at somepoint, so now i just go in the same day its much easier to get it over with and then the next you can crack on with goggles on ofcourse

You'll be diagnosed before me, I've not had formal diagnosis yet, but since cutting wheat from my diet I'm a whole lot healthier. I'm worse than most about going to the doctor:rolleyes::cautious:
But I was getting loads of acid reflux which no amount of rennies would help. Almost completely gone and I've a lot more energy too.
