barley for home brewing

Hi
Sorry for trespassing on your land but I wanted to ask a question. In short I am an allotment holder who wants to grow a small amount of barley to turn into beer. I wanted to ask for advise on where I can buy a small amount of grain and what would be the best thing to ask for.

very best regards
Graham

Do a search on Yell.com and find your nearest malster, they will probably sell you a bag of malt for not a lot of money. Unless you want to do the job yourself, of course. In that case, search on agricultural merchants where you can probably buy a bag of barley "for your hens".

Here's one:

Assume it would need to be a malting variety, then it would need to be malted!

An awful lot of faffing around.

By what our local brewer uses id say you need about 100grammes of grain per litre, maybe a bit less.

I can see why you want to do it start to finish however maybe the variables are a little too variable.

Him Many thanks for the replies so far. Good advise.
I can see there will be a lot of faffing around with doing it myself. I am mainly interested in the experience rather than the end result. On my plot I have around 12 seyval blanc vines that I use to turn in to wine. Lots of faffing around but fun to turn the grapes into wine.
I once made an apple press which prompted my allotment friend to ask why I didn't just buy one. I replied that in that case I may as well just buy the cider from Tesco.
