That doesn't count !!!!

I had resolved, curlietailz, not wanting to bring the wrath of the spectre of 1976 down on this year's yields, not to start until after the 30th.

But, records are sure made only to be broken.

So, I think we'll start on the 29th now, go for some real record lows and hope to finish, this time, in July (3rd August in 1976).

Funnily enough, An Gof, we had several years like this one back in the 70s.

In fact, the 1981 edition of the Phillip's World Atlas for Schools had a strip between Dartmoor and Exmoor coloured in as "Continental Dry Summer".

Same as parts of Kurdistan and Kazakhstan.

Of course, the 80s and 90s and 00s had their revenge, but this one's getting quite like old times.

Yes it is that bad . We are based in mid Devon right by the A30 , and wheat is dying on its feet now, no moisture in the soil and flag leaf shrinking by the day and another hot week coming in the forecast. Straw will be short here.

Same here, but hopefully not quite as short as it was in 1976, when the then farmer of one of our current fields called his baling contractor back in because he'd missed several rows, painstakingly marking them all up with red flags and then watching carefully on for the half hour or so it took him to bale up another 3 (small) bales.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
