Anyone had a bat survey done for part q, my planning guy wants me to do one although not really asked for in the rules, but due to past issues with the effing planners here I'm using a pro to put the application in.
Wiltshire if any recommendations and guide prices. TIA

Bat Conservation Trust are the people to contact. They will have local volunteers in your area who will be licensed to carry out a survey.

Just be aware that timing is everything as a proper survey should be done when the bats are active.

Some friends were doing some work on a house ( after a bat survey ) . Breaking into a wall they found some bats roosting.
Thinking they would do the right thing the contacted the bat conservation people.
Next thing they know a plod is questioning them under caution under some wildlife & countryside act..
The moral of the story is ...................................................................................

Moral of the story … don’t fk with bats. Even the humble pipestrelle is highly protected. Plus they’re cool

Reflects VERY badly on the Conservation people indeed......

You can do two things;
Go with the flow.
Get all red and angry.
Your choice.
Look after the bats andf if you do all the right things you will obtain your PP. It's not rocket science and it isn't a lifetime.

Had one done 3 years ago. Circa £750 i think.
Seems to be a standard box to tick for planning apps nowadays.

Best not discuss on a public place its accuracy or value ;)
Thats cheap. Ours was more than double that, and we had to have two go s at it.

You have to have the first one done before the end of July i think, and then another one in September. It you miss the time limit, you have to wait another year.

Unless you want no end of hassles & delays due to the so called breeding season would suggest you get a Henry hoover & a very stiff brush & do a very detailed clean up before the survey is taken otherwise be prepared for a nightmare.

I'm quite happy to do something for the bats just want some common sense from the planners
If it’s not strictly required don’t do one simple as that, personal I would only do it if they don’t validate your application he’s a fool recommending it if it’s not needed it, but he’s not paying!

I had to have an initial survey as mine was not class q,

I asked quietly with someone I know if this had to be professional, it’s called a desk survey, basically initial observations.
I did this my self based on other surveys and it was acccepted, I was honest but as the barn I question has a modem portal style roof there was no where for them to roost anyway and much nicer roosting locations nearer. There’s much more to it but it’s all online to look up.

Yes I agree and haven't agreed to do it yet and of all the local part q applications I've found only one has had one done, the difference is they were steel framed and ours is an old stone one, it's likely that there could be ones there, Im thinking of just saying while it's not a requirement of part q one will be done and some measures done in any case, we had a huge battle with the council over this barn ten years ago which we won so expecting them to play dirty, again

Yes if it’s stone it’s likely, mine was stone but burned down in 50s so got basically a portal frame roof on it.

I could not get class q as in an AONB then the half wit planner refused it as he said he was treating it as a new build, I told him I had a degree in planning and he was wrong it’s clearly a conversion, he then responded telling me he does not understand all the policy and tries to interpret what he thinks is relevant.
At this point I told him to refuse it so I could get it to appeal asap (appeal is easy and free don’t be afraid of doing it when planners are idiots) wrote the appeal and got it passed with very few conditions far less than the council would have given!

If you find Lace Wings, you more than likely have bats,
Did amuse me once,,
Had to have a Bat person present on dismantling a brick building, two days never saw a Bat,
But plenty of Lacewings, which she collected for feeding rescued bats,
I did ask the question, why is it okay to take and effectively kill lacewings,
She couldn’t really answer that one ,
