Hi,
have a Hi-lo with JD engine.
cant get it to click into road speed gear.
two buttons on dash. one does front wheel motors, other does back. each has hare/tortoise option.
if both in tortoise. dead slow - OK
if front clicked to hare - click, jump on abit faster - as it should
if back clicked now - no click and no further speed increase. sometimes if i run it for an hour it will suddenly click into road gear but inconsistent.

spool block under cab.
guessing three solenoids visible from RH front wheel are the ones for motor speed? cant see any broken wires. do i need to take solenoids off?
thanks

Same happened on my machine. It was a while ago but I think it was the electrical connector at the solenoid that had got tired, loose, lost its grip, got corroded etc. Can't really remember but I maybe had to buy a complete new solenoid coil unit to get the new connector or maybe I just crimped female spade connectors to the wires and pushed them onto the solenoid spades, doing away with the special connector block. I did not need to go into the oil side of things, it was all sorted in the electric side.

Also check the earth wire if there is one for them. Can cause havoc if bad connection or worked thin..

Sorry memory is hazy. But it was easy fix.

The three solenoids are front speed, rear speed and brakes. Not sure which is which. The connectors to the coils are called Hirschmann caps are readily available. Check continuity on all circuits and resistance through the coils.

Oh and ring Batemans. They always have an answer.
