Bearing and Gear pullers

Could really do with a new set of pullers after the Milwaukee 1/2" rattle gun didn't do the old set much good.

Anybody got one? Any good? Quite a lot of bits in a metal case and not silly money if it stands up to my torture.
Its not going to be old school Sykes Pickavant, but would do if it was decent,

i have got that set or very similar set from spaldings handy farm set, mine will be over 20 years old by now bought by my dad. still going strong now although some of the threaded bars have got bent from things slipping. certainly worth it at that price

Looks the same as the old one in the plastic box which I have it’s been ok I’m on my second one it’s only just man enough. My next one will be a 15ton

gees for the money you couldn't go far wrong there.
£130 wouldn't get you far in sykes or similar.
i notice they have the threaded holes in the shell puller beside the bolts, this is a better place to pull from, if you look about, there are none of the avg to medium brand puller sets like this, the holes are always 1/2 ways between the bars which is an inferior place to pull from imo.
the top end brands pull from beside the bolt, and so do the spaldings.

god only knows who's making it for them but you can be sure there's a few different brands cummin down the same line.

Don’t know about these but the Spalding’s set I have has a Sykes pickavant ram, looks similar.

I bought one about 4 years ago for a specific job and one leg cracked on first (careful) use. Despite repeatedly approaching Spaldings via their call centre and the local rep they've still not replaced the failed part.

Otherwise it's a good set.

I had a set, but broke the tip off the hydraulic puller trying to extract a bearing at an angle. More or less rendered the set useless. Quite frankly you're better off with a cheap set you wind up tight and wallop with a hammer IMO.

Got a comprehensive set of Sykes Pickavant I’m just about to sell, came with a job lot of gear from a factory closure. For comparison also pictured Spaldings set which I’ve only used 3/4 times which I’ll keep just in case but unlikely to need as using contractors on farm now.

New hydraulic bits on eBay for about £30

I have same set in , same box. Bought it from,North Eastern Farmers in Elgin, so wasn't yesterday, lol. Only problem has been bolts for bearing plate bending. I got a couple of long 12.9 bolts, been fine since. The ram , is interchangeable with a Sykes one.

I suppose sh1t happens and at least SP items are available as single parts, or they used to be from SP.
My set is over 40 years old and still does everything I ever ask of it. Thing is, the box seems to get heavier every time I reach for it now!

had the spalding set few years now, ram leaked and spalding said have to buy a new ram but some googling work found a seal set and away we go again , look after them and they will look after you !!!!

I have a sealey set, had it about five years. Only use it about half a dozen times a year but so far so good . Think it was about £200ish

i dont know if there was anyone in front of me but if there wasnt your about a half an hour late on the pm..
altho in saying that, ive dropped nearly too much coin this year on things so you stand a good chance .


looking at holwells post the foot on the spaldings leg was brittle enough,, as he says, it wasnt under that much pressure.
but that's the thing with certain tools, the expensive brands are that for a reason, not all mind you, but the ones that have stayed with the core values are worth it in the long run.
best place is to trawl the bay for the likes of the sykes and pick it up bit by bit.
its not a big dump of money at one time and in in a while you will have gathered a good set.
its what i do, too much of the time tbh but where else do you go for that kind of kit really.

The Spaldings set is fine for most farm repairs and if the ram needs replacing at some point then the SP one fits, ? You would get a bit of discount on the £130
Buy the slide hammer kit as well , it will be a good investment
