Tried to book some cattle in yesterday. Managed, after calling in a favour, to get a load booked for collection in 13 days time other local abattoir couldn’t do anything for 4 weeks
So that’s reinforced the power in the chain and that we are price takers lucky to have someone to take the cattle.
How much will the buyers take out of the price in the next month?

Hoggs and nsl back £1.30 pk over there, firms are sh#ting on there own farmers and importing foreign lamb. Talk on agriland is upto 40% of lamb being slaughtered is foreign . Madness when there goverment is handing out 100million when they should just stop the imports
Irish are on about £4/pk for hoggs and £5/pk for NSL

Base will drop to £3.25/30pk in the next month I have been told.

Also very unlikely to be a gap between indoor and grass finished cattle this year as the cattle were turned out early ( which they need to be ) and have been growing like stink ever since with no checks in growth from bad weather etc.

Never seen my stores I turned out in March do so well

I was talking to a big finisher at the store sale a few weeks ago and he said he had lost money on cattle bought in the backend of 18 he weighs them all on the way in too and grows all his own feed. Also doesn’t get money pulled back on cattle over 400/420 as he’s supplying a load or more every week. That is frightening considering how cheap they looked just shows how much base prices are adrift. Pounds not pence
