Yep starting from a dryer point as well...bit and bobs of rain and drizzle but that always gone in a few hrs when the Sun comes up
That includes the stirks I believe.
Trade was down across the board in the store ring but well bred suckler cattle saw the smallest drop and all things considered were selling very well.
Plenty of smaller sorts in the store ring 18/24 months selling between £350 and £550 head, even strong dairy x bred heifers were struggling to make it past the £650/700 head mark.
One company is now fully booked up until around the 20th of June for cattle and predictions are that the beef price will drop another 10/15pk after next weeks price cut in the next month or so.
Good news thou is that the SW will get some decent and much needed rain over the next few days
Been at the beef breeding sale at Carlisle today. The trade was electric! Two lots of stock cows sold first looked plenty of money but actually ended up being the cheapest of the day. The heifers and calves lifted £100 at least after the first hour. The dearest best sorts were similar money to usual, the second rate and poorer types were up £200/£400. Ended up with two shapey BBX bulling heifers £1500 a piece and a BBX heifer and calf at £1700. The trade did not resemble the store sales or fat
CrazyI have been to two breeding cattle sales this week,Dingwall on Wednesday and Thainstone today, trade in Dingwall for the Luings was tremendous with the bullers averaging over £2000. The commercials in both marts were over £2000 for any cow or hfr plus calf units that you would want to take home and with a good show of cattle in both marts the most of them were over £2000.
They were good plenty of outfits over £2000 one was £2900 a lot around £1800 a lot of second calvers or young cows. Most had very good calves with them. Any older ones looked dearer my mate wanted some old cows to split but too dear for that job. A Welch dealer bought most of them a lot around the £1800 plus looked dear at the time but in reflection they were cheap on the day. Bull was £4300 Clarragh Franco sire same as one of our stock bulls 8 years old still mobile good bull. Progeny sold him seen before went to same man. He landed over when I was trying to buy heifers and calves later and was laughing as the trade went up. Showed me the sheet seemed content what he had bought. He had 20 out of the previous sale I was at. The lad selling them seemed pleased with the trade. Why were they there? One of the lots of stock cows were there due to loss of rented ground can’t remember which oneWhat were the cattle like from Barkers, first in the ring I think.
I’ve seen something about that tooI see the irish farmers are being given a 100 million because they've had a bad year!
I’ve had a bad year...where’s my shareI see the irish farmers are being given a 100 million because they've had a bad year!

There usually on more than us for lamb, so I can't see that being true, although the ewes are a better trade hereI was told that they were only on £4/kg for lamb can anyone confirm?
I was told ewes were a better trade over there, and they haven’t been sending any across the water...There usually on more than us for lamb, so I can't see that being true, although the ewes are a better trade here
They are still coming. The two regular lads were at Longtown on Thursday with deckers of really heavy ewesI was told ewes were a better trade over there, and they haven’t been sending any across the water...
Just what I was told a couple of weeks ago...the price was better over thereThey are still coming. The two regular lads were at Longtown on Thursday with deckers of really heavy ewes
