Very poor calve trade at Exeter today @Shebb90

A top end Lim bull ( u+ grade ) struggled to make £220 head, plenty of strong/well bred BBX / AAX etc heifers around the £50/70 head mark.

Top of the day was only £300 for a stonking Char x bull calve.

Would easily be £30/ 50 head less than Sedges poor trade last Saturday!

Couples a mixed trade, easily down £30 unit on last weeks trade!

Confidence seems to have fallen off a cliff and no one is intrested in rearing these calves even when they are making next to nothing!

This weeks couples in Exeter were not quite as good as last week and there were a hell
of a lot more in this week.

The smart Dorset mules sold very well on a par with laweek.

The Dorper’s had novelty interest but struggled to be sold to be honest.

Store lambs seemed a stand on trade other than the odds and sods

I agree there were more in but quality wise even the like for like were back £20 unit on last week, some young outfits looked cheap compared to breeder/current cull ewe prices with a 2 tooth Hampshire with a smart lamb struggling to make £108 for the pair!

The dorphers were a dealers sheep and small tbf and don't think that the one ewe having 11 teeth helped trade either!

I dunno but something tells me most likely not. Could do with cows jumping up a bit now, but if clean don't move guess cows won't?

Cows are more likely to move upwards than clean because there is one hell of a demand for mince!

Im hearing that some company's are predicting that cows will jump upwards but clean will drop in the next few weeks!

Yes they were small....but Partridge tried his best to get interest.....not sure I’d class him as a dealer....definitely one the few characters left.

Hamps don’t have a following locally and against Dorset’s this time of year would struggle.

I have some Dorset doubles to take in the next week or two. Time will tell.

Hampshires are a really under rated breed imo but the lambs are only suited to deadweight selling when fit.

P is defo a dealer but yes sadly one of the few characters left!

If the volume buyer from Cornwall who comes up every week stops buying they could easily drop another £30 unit.

Why will the Cornwall buy stop coming up?

Trouble is how close will they let clean and cows get price wise?

Plenty of dairy farmers ( esp those with NZ grass rats ) are now signing contracts to finish the cattle at 22/24 months old at a flat rate of £2.75 kilo, cattle are averaging about £700 on the hook and they think they are making a profit but they haven't worked out yet that the milk cheque is actually subbing the beef cattle!
