Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

I would like to try some hill type cows to out winter to some degree yes but I couldn’t consider having a big number out or the whole lot. I have some Angus calves here which are off BB heifers i bought incalf and they are horrendous looking things. They will take some feed to get away. Pot bellied can’t grow named sires what a load of rubbish
Oh dear. But there's pot bellied and then there's cattle which have retained a large rumen capacity, ideal for coping with large volumes of moderate forage.

Personally, I don't like cattle which look like they're just about to be loaded in to trap one at Brough Park.

Haven’t been to a store sale for a while. What would 300-330kg dairy Blue steers and dairy x lim steers be worth at the moment. Wonder if I ought to cash in now?
Trade isnt on fire with those types, unless your short of money or grass i would keep them until they are nearer 400kg. They would probably be around the £700 at very best atm and could make alot less on the wrong day

The Angus wouldn’t make £1170 at 30 months

Buying an Angus bull is like having a life long ambition to run about in a people carrier

You actually made me laugh out loud with that one.
I’ve never been much of a fan of AA myself either, but I’m surprise you found them to be short of growth, especially out of blue cows.
I calved some blue cows down to the Angus last spring and I’m just starting to sell the offspring now at 16m. The first bullock I killed last week was 397kgs dead. They are nowhere near as satisfying to look at as a lim as a calf, being gutty and plain by comparison but I think we have been conditioned to see them that way.

How does @harperfarmer get his to look so good?

Thing is we had Angus bulls 35/40 years ago and they were shite then. Most people that have bought them can’t remember how bad they were then.
Einsteins theory of idiocy is doing the same thing and expecting different results
