If £2 a kilo excites you in 2020 then fair enough....personally I’d say it was just an ok trade
I agree and this is what I’m getting at....people wetting themselves over £2 kilo in this day and age, it’s only where they need to be....and hoggs at £100 in the spring isn’t going to make me wet myself....£170 yesIt's not exciting but it's not the usual depressing trade for the last couple
of months but totally agree that £2 only buys what £1.50 did ten or so years ago.
So would I but I think it will be a lot more April May it usually is .If £2 a kilo excites you in 2020 then fair enough....personally I’d say it was just an ok trade
I do agree and definitely needed. My point was more to do with long keep or short keep lambs. They can be 30 kg or 42 kg but many don’t cash them until trade improves in the spring.I agree and this is what I’m getting at....people wetting themselves over £2 kilo in this day and age, it’s only where they need to be....and hoggs at £100 in the spring isn’t going to make me wet myself....£170 yes
Trust me on this, the lambs from the highlands need time. You would end up with 30kg fat lambs otherwise. They need too be out on grass until February growing frame then move onto crop or corn in March to fill them out. The cross lambs from up there are different but the pure cheviots & blackies need the time. Why do people always say lambs that won’t be fit until March or April. There will be plenty bought that could finish a lot sooner but people hold them for the better trade in April, May. Is that not part of the game. Wait for the trade ?
I've never understood the logic of keeping 48kg lambs until they are 60kg and a ruck have put their teeth up though?!?!I do agree and definitely needed. Damn right they would. Winter keep would jump up and after 2 years we'd be working on the same margins as we are now. It wouldn't be the keep farmers who put it up either! It would be sheep farmers running around with loads of money too burn shouting "I'll give you £1.20 sheep unfenced"Depends on your system really.some folk £2kg is fine an will work away.others will need more.
I'd love hoggs to be at nearer £3kg.but I bet all the inputs would jump on the band wagon even more an put their prices up.
We've stopped selling mid December too mid January for years now. Occasionally a strong trade between xmas and new year will entice me to draw a load but last time I did that I brought them all home again!A lot of folks used to aim for Christmas trade but I never remember that being anything exciting, then January everyone is skint paying card bills February usually a bit better you are soon into March and April last few years trade has held better later
Were the same might get a good week for cast ewes but Xmas hast been to exiting for a good few years. We've stopped selling mid December too mid January for years now. Well we’ve got it in writing now so it must be true. That’s going to boost next week’s store lamb trade by at least £20£200 on April 15th 2021 at new mart Darlington.
That is for @Northeastfarmer specials. Might not be far off,he hit £170 in April 2018 i think.Well we’ve got it in writing now so it must be true. That’s going to boost next week’s store lamb trade by at least £20
We rarely sell Cheviots until April, as you say it's pointless pushing them and they often hit the best trade.Trust me on this, the lambs from the highlands need time. If they do I’ll let you buy me a cup of tea to celebrate£200 on April 15th 2021 at new mart Darlington.
What size are the gimmers? They would sell on SML unless you keep them allNever sold stores, always ended up finishing last lot indoors, but think this is the year to dip our toes. Only problem being our Romneys are a bit of a rare breed in Bakewell/Leek!
Not afraid to travel, so where would people suggest is best? Or try on here / sell my livestock? Probably a trailer load.
