Some people are deluded when it comes to killing out % and way over estimate how well their stock kill out!
How often do you kill a shetland at 12 weeks old??
51kg at £148 and 2 pure exlanas (52.5kg) at £136.
Would have been better on the hook this week, even at those weights...
(only a farmer could moan after selling hoggets at £148! )
I finally got to checking the email for the cull ewes I took in on Monday last night.
Charollais ewes at £187, a couple of Highlanders at £129 and nine pure Exlanas at £90. I didn’t even top the market with the Charollais, whose better flock mates had done so at £163 a couple of weeks ago.
Total was £4500 after stoppages for a trailer of 36 sheep. A good day at the office.

We regularly see our Suff x Mule springers in June kill at 54-55%.
If you don’t know what your talking about it’s better to say nothing.

Are the Exlanas usually worth so much less than the Highlanders?I finally got to checking the email for the cull ewes I took in on Monday last night.

Aye better grass than you to be fair but I think they do better on older pasture than some of the modern grasses. What kind of ground is it though? the Eden valley?
