How have you ascertained it is 12 weeks? When a calf hits 6 weeks it will drink a bag in just over a fortnight?

You should aim to wean at 10- 12 weeks old.

A 12 week old calve will not use 2 bags of powder.

If you are using a bag a calve a fortnight after 6 weeks then you need to cut rates and up the pellets.

Target should be no more than 1.5 bags a calve from 2 weeks old.

Sounds dear but they had one hell of a couple's trade on Sat, esp for younger outfits, some were well over £100 head a life and the lambs were not that big for that money!

Dont get your knickers in a twist, he was a prem calf and will never amount to much. He's almost become a pet .

Well as he is prem calf i would keep feeding him and not worry about how many bags of powder he drinks.

Even thou he is prem more often than not calves like him end up doing very well given time, all depends on the calve, some are fighters and some just give up but he sounds like the former!

My comments ref bags used was for normal calves on bagged milk from say 2 weeks to 10/12 weeks old.

Your an expert calf rearer, how much milk replacer on average would your calves use?
On a bag of bloom its 125g p/litre and 2-3litres p/ feed. Makes alot of difference if the calves come in at 4-6weeks old
