Little calves will be very dear in 3 weeks wont they?ill put my neck on the block but I can see store cattle easing back…inputs are going through the roof
Each to there own. With out a dought the NCM has for years been the backbone of the nations breeding flock, but ignore the Chev Mule at your peril as it provides an alternative to those who think the Swale/NCM has lost its way. As I have stated on more than one occasion all that seems to be of value to the Swale men ends up in the bin and as a consequence an increasing number think the NCM has lost its way a little and sought alternatives. The fact that the 2nd ewe lamb sale at Hawes included some Chev Mules (heracy to the locals) says something let alone the number Chev ewes appearing on the hills in the north of England. Variety is the spice of life.Well it would seem this year that they have and come back to buy NoE mule, that why they've caught up a bit again price wise, even though theres 000s more of them
Cattle bought now often go straight inside,so have the full whack of winter feeding ahead. Jan/Feb for some folk half the winters gone.If its just a normal Winter, trade will pick up by then.I have a fair few store cattle to sell and had hoped to cash some around now, however after saying that I don’t normally sell any store cattle at this time of year. I always feel there’s too many about and the price isn’t right. I usually give up selling in August and start around December so will maybe stick to plan A
There was a pen of Chev mules at Lazonby yesterday, no one can deny they are great sheep, if cheviots would do on our fell I would keep some for the simple reason being the price of swale wether store lambs. Its very frustrating for the likes of me, who are trying to breed good commercial sheep, the way the top swale tup breeders have taken the breedEach to there own. We’ve been trying to sell them a bit younger so they aren’t as good at the minute anyway so I think we were looking at the lift in the trade at August rates. We will put them in and get them looking in shape looks like the best optionCattle bought now often go straight inside,so have the full whack of winter feeding ahead. Hill Cheviots might be ok. There’s a few different types Park, Hill, North, South, Lairg I can find out but don’t know myselfThere was a pen of Chev mules at Lazonby yesterday, no one can deny they are great sheep, if cheviots would do on our fell I would keep some for the simple reason being the price of swale wether store lambs. Knowing us, it will happen anyway… there’s a carefully laid plan a foot…Some nice looking lambs there but you'd better Be careful, you might decide you like the ones bred out of swales better than the blackie ones and you'll have to make the trip to Lazonby again next year
Get there a fortnight sooner thenKnowing us, it will happen anyway… there’s a carefully laid plan a foot…
If it gets too mid February and we are knee deep in mud and water they will have too be fed indoors regardless. It doesn’t pay too not have them growing at any priceAny money feeding lambs on pellets indoors? Cost of stores and feed anybody doing it?
Can’t afford them! And I’m in Scotland Alston moor week!Get there a fortnight sooner then
Oh well, can't blame me for trying, might try a few at Penrith next yearCan’t afford them! And I’m in Scotland Alston moor week!
They were cheap lambs, touch of wool but good bodied sheep. The only reason they weren’t coming home with us was the man selling them. Once bitten twice shy. Full marks for trying!Oh well, can't blame me for trying, might try a few at Penrith next year
