Input costs are killing them for one , labour shortages and lack of decent contract/milk buyer. Over 300 herds sold in the last 12 mths with trade being pretty good on them but that has changed now, the average and also rans are for nothing.

Tbf though if your keeping massive numbers of cows dairy or beef , you would have to always think that tb is going to strike at some point. So i dont understand why more of these big units are not set up to cope with farming with tb and to take the shock and worry out of an outbreak.

A friend of mine with circa 350 cows so not big went down in the summer and he said thankfully they have 3,000 bale’s more than they need so should be able to cope until they go clear (never been down before)

An old neighbour had 200 cows and didn’t have the heart to shoot calves so had to rent almost 250acre to keep the calves going through until finishing, a lot of the land was over 10 miles away.

Yep, not far away from me a dairy farmer retired 2 years ago, first time clear in 14 years and at the age of 67 he said it may never happen again so sold the cows and rented it all out

According to AHDB the SQQ at Carlisle was 301p. I've just had an email from Kirkby Stephen saying lambs are going to be in extreme demand tomorrow

Amazing how dear tups were at Stirling today, so late in the day, breeding ewes maybe abit harder going, had alot of good sheep, stores very expensive, fat good a lanark, alot at 130 odds.
