I’ve another too go! 😂

blue cow, slipped calf a month early (dead and stinking) turned her out now too clean up and then she’s away.
Every cloud has a silver lining and I’ve plenty of heifers too pick from! 😂😂
I keep finding cull ewes and glad to see them, found 8 yesterday when shearing and pulled them straight out. No second chances any more when I can keep a £70 store lamb kill the fat ewe for £130.

I'm going back on what I've said now!🤦‍♂️

But even if you restrict supply the lamb, fat beast is ultimately going to end up at the slaughterhouse isn't it?

It's not as though we have a alternative market and can sell it for another use.

From that perspective the only way to limit supply is put less to the bull and cull breeding stock.
yep and we are all just waiting for all the other farmers to do just that

💯 % agree.

Thing is those on low input less intensive systems are going to weather this better than us.

There not relying on fertiliser to grow grass and concentrates to put kg on.
Organic on half the stock here and the conventional stock are spread thinner to save on fert, it was cheaper to rent land than put fert on this year. To be fair that land was half promised anyway.

Lowish input but rent is near 6 figures 😬

It must be nice to be as financially well off as you are….unfortunately and unashamedly we need to sell on a regular basis as the invoices don’t stop appearing in the letterbox
Like I have always said ....the livestock create the bills so the livestock have to pay the bills !

However I'm not sure that I would like to be in the position that I have to sell just to pay the bills when the stock isn't quite ready to be sold . .....but we are in exceptional times ATM.

yes you can't keep buying dear and selling cheap indefinitely, so lets have an alternative ? we seem to have ruled out not selling so what ? it seems clear that something needs to be done about putting selling prices up or lowering the cost of inputs, any ideas anyone ?
Your being very greedy, you dont need selling prices up,your very well off, making a lot of money yet your still not happy!

Is it any good for anyone to "need" selling prices up ? What good will that do, will they rise just because I/we need ?

As for the rest of it yes in comparison to a lot of folk I am very well off and grateful for it, still less well off financially than a lot on here I wouldn't mind betting

Nothing will leave here unless it’s finished properly
