Well I keep telling em they're going to have to put a bit of blacky into the swale, they won't have it, say they'll get bellied in the mud on winter like this!Those Blackface ewes have made a lot more than your Swales mind

I don’t believe it. I think the future is in those shedding type sheep mules are no use now whatsoever. What you want is very small sheep that don’t need any feed that’s where the big money is. I know because I’ve read it many times on here

I would say how the weather is down here Hoggs more likely to be going backwards rather than forwards.

Why do people think these heavy lambs have hit the sweet spot now? Is it because per kilo of meat they will be cheaper, takes a similar cost to kill and dress a 40kgs lamb as a 55Kgs lamb? Or the ethnic trade growing?

This is the most interesting bit without all the names, from Kirkby last night. Nearly 1/3rd of them were horned hoggs or mules!
A SQQ average of 363.5p/kg and an overall average of 353p/kg and £158.62 was achieved for 3561 hoggs which includes over 1100 horned and Mule hoggs.
27 pens and 97 hoggs sold between £200-£222
111 pens and 601 hoggs sold between £180-£222
20 pens and 166 hoggs sold between 450-500p/kg
90 pens and 512 hoggs sold between 400-500p/kg
632 Beltex cross hoggs sold to average £172 and 424p/kg.

Blackfaced hoggs topped at £165 for a pen of thirty 51kg hoggs from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, Longtown. The consignment of 321 superbly finished Blackfaced hoggs from Smalmstown sold to average 46kg £160.01 (346.3p/kg).
