Woodheads only buy lambs out of very few marts now. I don’t think it would matter to them if it was green or red as they’d kill them anywayDoes this mean the likes of woodheads can buy lambs out of the mart?
Believe only red markets can be used by them and sure others r the same
Mite slightly explain y northern marts are usually dearer than sw
Our local market used to sort lambs and feel them all for condition. They would tell you if they thought they were under or over finished. Why do farmers insist on selling raw under finished hoggs in the prime Marts...it’s an absolute waste and they should be ashamed of themselves, sell them as stores and let someone make a proper job of them....they should be turned away from the fat mart if they aren’t finished properly
Sheep on the same day as TB restricted cattle have to be 'Red' too - here's the extract from Newark's Wednesday (Red market) conditions......Didn't know that you had dedicated slaughter markets for sheep. What's the reason for that?
Well if you can’t handle and draw lambs then you shouldn’t be finishing themOur local market used to sort lambs and feel them all for condition. They would tell you if they thought they were under or over finished.
They don't touch them now rightly or wrongly.
They're not graded? Our local market used to sort lambs and feel them all for condition. They would tell you if they thought they were under or over finished.

Wouldn't your lambs be sold through a ring as well, so the buyers wouldn't be able to handle any lambs? No graders up here.

Everything is in pens around here and graded I just presumed it was the same in every market, I always thought they were mlc graders years ago and its just carried onNo graders here.
Newark - draw 'em how you like or they will draw 'em/ help you to draw 'em.
Selby - have a good man who likes to draw 'em as how he thinks it will suit their buyers.
Both sold in pens so buyers can handle them if they want - always surprises me how many buyers never touch them.
