Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

I said weeks ago that store lambs would be a great trade buy this time, can only see them getn dearer week by week, lm going to buy feeding ewes for my 11 acre of rape, going to run them on some fugage till November then put them on the rape. I think you could pick up good texel feeders for 40/45. Mules less. I think they will leave as much as stores at 60. We'll see anyway.

Interesting suppositions, and they might be right, but for all we know that bullock might represent somebody's most valiant efforts to keep a good farm going in the face of family illness or a bereavement ...

Markets are much more anonymous these days. We don't always know a vendor's circumstances.
It wasn’t yours was it....

Store cattle at sedge on sat were a very strong trade with some super runs of cattle going thru the ring, plenty of pens of strong feeding steers easily £1050+, NS/ angus steers also selling much stronger than previous weeks, most of the very poor stuff was dairy bred, a long run of 24/25 month old Fri steers at the end of the sale selling up/down of £300/ head.

Highlight of the sale surely was the 23 month old Dexter heifer selling very well to top out at £140 head.

Biggest entry penned for some considerable time but trade is strong, the winter is long so now is the time to sell.

Cheers Guth that’s what we like to hear, got a lorry load booked in for Saturday so we will see how we get on.

It's time it was mandatory. They should be 50 quid less in the store ring to pay for the hassle and then folks might actually take them off. Nobody is fooled cutting 2 years growth off to make it look younger.

Don't the folks bidding have the power to pay £50 less, and some, if they don't want them?

A mate who sells in tavvy was commenting he stands in the ring with his cattle and for buyers to know who he is, and what his cattle are like. I think big mkts can lose the personal touch nd attract a lot of dealer animals.

Have few ewes to go, prices ok?

At the moment, I haven't a Scooby's. A few more culls almost ready, so won't know for a while. My foray last week wasn't a long enough stay and now the market report is available in any case.
After my earlier (utter rubbish) attempt at price reporting using second hand info, I'll report first hand and written down on site if I can.

Of course, the point I am making is that folks don't pay less, if I drop out at 50 less there's likely enough someone who will pay 40 less, and so on.

I suppose I'm saying that folks need to look at the extra costs associated with horned cattle and bid accordingly.

But most times they are a tad cheaper, and when someone is buying cattle to pass on a few bigger ones ,even with horns ,look good value...I know a guy who buys for farmers he is always prepared to bid past the post for the odd good single beast because it makes those bunches look cheaper.

With that comes the phrase a ‘dealers lot’.

Up North it's more of a talking point if they have nobody standing with them.

A friend failed to sell 80 of his texel x only got bid £110 on them and they’re very clean smart ewes!
His suffolks made £130 but were top draw ewes
Plenty of bargains to be had by the sounds with good mules under £95
I thought they were similar trade to last year mine were anyway, did not see much under 100 though if you are referring to Hereford ? Sale report online
