What were they like Werzle? I've got a few booked into Whitland tomorrow.
Videos still available to view on mccartneys agriculture facebook and you do not need to be on fb to watch it. Odd few poor quality animals were average but anything half decent flew, seeing a few usual autumn vendors that would sell 24mths animals cashing in 20mth animals now because of the good trade . This will only compound the trade because they will not be there for the autumn sales, 400kg+cattle are going to get short on the ground come oct/nov

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (Friday 31st July 2020) Sold 1,637
Breeding Gimmers and Ewes and Store Lambs.
Breeding Gimmers (789) sold to £420 for a pen of four Pure Beltex’s from Newmill,
Rathen.
Breeding Ewes (309) sold to £180 for a pair of 2-year-old Suffolk’s from Stoneridge,
Cortes.
Store Lambs (539) to £86 for a pen of Texel crosses from Backmuir, Keith.
“At the opening breeding sheep sale of the season all classes sold at greatly increased
rates on the year, keeping in line with the strong cull ewe trade and the higher prime
lamb market. 789 gimmers sold and topped at £420 per head for four outstanding pure
Beltex from W & D Moir Livestock, Newmill, Rathen. The entire gimmer offering
averaged £163.19. A good quality show of 539 store lambs met an animated demand
topping at £86 and averaging £69.25. A combination of strong prime lamb prices
combined with an abundance of grass means that there is currently a very high
demand for all classes of store lambs going forward.”

Wouldnt be too far behind normal sales with the trade as it is.
They are a tricky weight for the short stay finishers as time of year goes on. Sedge (yo-yo) mkt says a good trade but not as strong ppk as the short stayers. We are overstocked and shut down, have grass but are probably feeding for no £ gain.
