Been tagging lambs today, 36kg to go next week, born between 28th Feb and March 10th. Had 20 No creep, homebred ramsI think the Genetics of the Rams that farmers buy are improving growth rates, that together with creep feeding is most certainly getting the best out of their lambs...
Portland was the best recommendation I think I’ve seenNot the Shetland x that some seem to advise breeding on here
I thought live buyers wanted Suffolk types or has that changed now?Or produce sheep that are wanted?
bloody good job , more gone now , better for summer , been to many years now with excess hoggs stifling the trade through early summer , tight store supply will help values as well .There certainly not short around here loads of lambs going to kill at about 12 weeks old.

If thats a reference to the exlanas, the last 2 lots I've taken have made as much as the beltex and Charly x's at the same weights.Or produce sheep that are wanted?
I suppose that’s ok when you farm little boys landnot really i get hill boys lamb later and the beltex lambzzzzzzzzzzzz take a bit longer lol , but there has been to many hoggs born normal time around here not sold till late , ends up clashing with the dorset boys over easter , no real excuse for suff mule lambs still about in may except the rough end
chill man, im only winding you up , im in same boat we are 750' no grass often till end april , my comments are more aimed at the lowland boys around me many on dairy units .I suppose that’s ok when you farm little boys land
Mid April to start lambing here unless you are very lightly stocked and want to have them either inside or relying on cake or both there isn’t much point in lambing earlier. Still it’s too late to hit good spring lamb prices before they cool off. A year like this approaching mid May and still no grass yet.
Amazing getting lessons how to farm here from someone who likely couldn’t.
750 lolchill man, im only winding you up , im in same boat we are 750' no grass often till end april , my comments are more aimed at the lowland boys around me many on dairy units .
Ha we’ve had stick about this for years off folks that lamb early but likewise I could be moaning at them for selling from June when we can only get weight by end of September as a rulechill man, im only winding you up , im in same boat we are 750' no grass often till end april , my comments are more aimed at the lowland boys around me many on dairy units .
