It’s a funny thing with gimmers, I keep a lot my self ( first cross off mules ) so I end with with texel looking ewes to make most of my flock but obviously I need more mules to get these from!

sorted 50 out this time usually much less don’t really need that many but there a cracking bunch so thought why not if I don’t fancy then next year they will go for meat prices are so good!?

first sales always seem crazy but later ones more sensible, not a fan of shearling at all, always think they were probably the shite from last year that did not sell, plus there mad as f**k when they lamb and much bigger and harder to catch!
Managed to get some nice gimmers local privately again we settled on 96 each which I’m happy with

local market to me seems much more sensible price wise to Skipton for gimmers other year welsh buyer came up with an atric and took a full load back!

Biggest thing for me if they have been allowed to roam over walls and eleccy fence for a year without a job to do they can be right swines.

Funny you say that a few of my gimmers that did not get in lamb ended up doing this, just turn into nobheads

Guys buying for that gimmering job have to buy nice dark faced ones as the whiter faced one don't sell the same for some reason.

In my opinion the fashion for coloured faces, coarse hair, coloured legs etc has been the downfall of the Swale and the NCM, more regard should have been and should be given to conformation because the commercial breeder wants to sell a good conformation lamb.
At the end of the day the head and legs go in the bin and the arse and loin on the plate.

In my opinion the fashion for coloured faces, coarse hair, coloured legs etc has been the downfall of the Swale and the NCM, more regard should have been and should be given to conformation because the commercial breeder wants to sell a good conformation lamb.
At the end of the day the head and legs go in the bin and the arse and loin on the plate.

Both the Swale and Leicester breeds and more importantly the breeders have had at times and adverse effect on the mule
