I think you need to calm down , how on earth you expect anyone to work with you , it's never suprising good farm staff are hard to find ..how come all this happens on the weekend have you thought about getting your work done Monday to Friday
That’s why we use the family… they are stuck with us! 😂😂😂 and if you act useless enough in the house you get sent outside to be out of the way!! Win win really!

@livestock 1 ditch that bloody RR, here's the real dealer wagon. And you don't need to rip the back seats out to get the VAT back 🤣
Nah, the Bentley will never be as practical as his RR........

Had a letter from my concentrate supplier this week telling me due to raw matierials and fuel etc going up the price of cake going up between 20 to 30 quid
I wonder what the reaction would be at the slaughter house if I sent them a similar letter about my cost and the need for a 10% rise
Probably lots of laughter I suspect

Those so called experts are talking complete and utter bulls**t!

These so called idiot experts would not know what a real days work is if it smacked them on the face.

And they could certainly not even organize a pee up in a brewery if you turned the taps on for them! no doubt these so called idiot experts would tell you that you could have a pee up and get drunk without booze in a brewery!!

Case in point, Sedge market was exceptionally busy today both with people and livestock resulting in expectionally strong trades in all rings be that dairy cows/ store cattle/ stirks or baby dairy calves/ store/breeding sheep.

In the baby dairy calve ring they had 528 calves penned and sold today..

Livestock markets across the UK have a solid future and if anything are getting more and more popular to trade stock than they would have been a few years ago.

Buy/sell your cattle/sheep live to thrive or else these sectors will end up in the current dire straights the poor pig sector now finds itself in!
First time at sedge today buying calves. Never been there before. Massive number of calves. Wish they would put those stirks at the end rather than mixing them in with the baby calves. Do like how they sell them in pairs to help speed things up. 👍🏻

Not so sure about the intergrated supply lines tbh, a lot of people who have tried these so called lines do not stay in them/ the scheme for very long, they do a few batches then realise they are working for nothing and pull out and go back to buying their own calves and selling their own cattle etc.

Was it not the Morrisons scheme ??where some farmers ended up actually having to send a cheque with the fat cattle they sent to cover the costs of the cattle/losses as what they were promised ref fat cattle prices/the cost of rearing said cattle and what they actually got was like comparing chalk and cheese!

Really? I know quite a few on supermarket contracts rearing AA (mostly) x dairy cattle and they all seem happy with the job. Most of those would be relatively new entrants that have limited capital or infrastructure, maximising efficiency on rotational grazing system, and often sending the cattle on again for contract finishing.

Admittedly I’d not be keen on looking at those types of cattle every day, but the figures are adding up well enough for them, whilst minimising their exposure to the risk that volatile mart trading brings.

But how many of us are told they’ve packed the bags though 🤦🏻‍♂️
The wife used to do quite a lot with me work wise, mainly moving triple strand on turnips in the rain. Even bought the Polaris to keep her happier. She no longer works with me and I employ someone instead, an extra 500 ewes made sure of that 🤣

The only time I will ever ask Mrs NeilO to help me move stock is if the dogs have already got p*ssed off with me and downed tools. That’s never a good start of course, so I try to avoid that scenario at all costs.

It doesn’t help of course, because I then get earache for making life hard for myself by not asking for her help more often, but I know how it would end up and I don’t really want to share the kennel with the dogs.🤐

I will add that the Mrs doesn’t come fencing anymore. After numerous lessons she still can’t get it right so it’s faster too do it myself. But moving sheep and penning up etc when we are busy and Brother is already fencing or feeding at home she’s a life saver.
as long as I remember too buy the odd spontaneous bunch of pretty flowers and take her too her favourite pub/steak house for her birthday it’s all good. ☺️☺️ Oh and I’m not too call her Jack Russell fat (which she is) more than once a day.
