I’ve NEVER been able too work out how buying old ewes with lambs and feeding the lot adds up. Always been far dearer than I’ve expected. I’ve bought rough hill ewes with crossed lambs and done it but I’ve sold old mules before now and wondered how on earth the next man makes them pay

Buying ewes and lambs always seems hellish expensive to me

Nor me that why I sell them, they don’t need to make much money mind, just got to keep some grass down that I don’t want to pay them for.

The funny thing with these ewes is that this will be my 3 time selling the same sheep, if I buy them back in September that will be 4 times buying and selling the same bunch of ewes.

Your not related to @Hfd Cattle by any chance? He seems to hire hay bales out in the same fashion!

Sat in a hedge at the moment, holding the collies back waiting for brother too give me the heads up too move... we’ve found the renegade feral blackie ewes on the abandoned ground next door... I’d hate for them too miss a chance too celebrate Ramadan...

Ha ha, I had one like that. Ended up with no lambs and thought she would be clever and jump into the neighbour's field. Didn't want her missing the bus to St Boswells! The look on her face when Spot and Mist emerged from the ditch to spring the trap was priceless

How to wreak your day, count how many lambs where scanned and how many you sell. I won’t be doing that again, I try my best but there always going to die.

I know wat u mean but it's so easy to do.... I get the ticket off the notice board the scanner man gave me & look on the computer to see how many lambs we've sold through the yr (misses does that) press subtract & there u have the figure....................!!! Pity it wasn't one of those jobs that took half a day then u wouldn't bother & ignorance is bliss

I can't believe they are short of OSL, unless they mean short of in-spec (16-21kg dw) lambs? Welshpool was chocked to the rafters this morning.

Jungle drums said last night that ABP NSL £6.60/kg. Short of OSL apparently.
So I took some to sedgemoor this morning.
Plenty of suckers there.

No idea. I’ve not got time to stand around in market all day to see. I expect they’ve only just been sold (10am start).

Awash with sheep, mostly hoggs in Ross today. Gossip indicates they were OK trade. I had ewes in, no complaints with that trade!!

I think I saw cull ewes going up to the cattle pens, so yes, loads in.

50.5kg @ £130 and 48kg @ £131.50, so up a couple of quid on the week.
