Are they checking toothers now?I had a first at Welshpool today. Only took 19 as nearly out now, all 47-48kg at home yesterday afternoon. The mart calculator must have been broken, as they insisted they were 55kg. One exlana I put separate was weighed about right, at 46kg. I'd normally have been glad of the extra weight...
The 55kg ones (all continentals) made £128, apart from a toother that made £105, and the shedder made £115.

Perhaps better to go niche then...Let's be honest on the grand scheme of things its niche, there won't be many finished cattle that haven't eaten a ton
1) there was a fraction of the population thenWell we always used to be. There could be a big return to that way.It doesnt look as if £300/ton grain is going to end any time soon.
We never got any real money for them. That’s why we changed1) there was a fraction of the population then
2) there was a damn sight less building and infrastructure on farmland
3) there weren’t 000’s of acres of hill land being put too trees or minimal stocking for environmental payments. Those hills were essential too run the native suckler herds too sell calves down onto the lowlands.

I asked a grader about the toother situation last week and was told 'If we dont check we don't know!' ... seemed a sensible enough approach. A young lad declared his and they were £20 down like for likeIt seems so, not that I checked them myself.
It’s definitely one of those jobs where you keep your gob shut and hopeI asked a grader about the toother situation last week and was told 'If we dont check we don't know!' ... seemed a sensible enough approach. A young lad declared his and they were £20 down like for like
Your better off declaring them if they are I've had a phone call that evening before to say some are toothers and I would get paid less for them. Was a fair price for them but did look like I was trying it on (I wasn't!)I asked a grader about the toother situation last week and was told 'If we dont check we don't know!' ... seemed a sensible enough approach. Yep they found one for me when they killed it..Auctioneers docked 25 quid off...thats what the plant deducted..i always find honesty is bestIt’s definitely one of those jobs where you keep your gob shut and hope
pulled out a couple of half meated hoggs that had teeth up a fortnight since. Threw them in with the ewes, nothing was said and they made a damn sight more as half meated ewes than they would have done as half meated toothers!
We can't all go niche because it wouldn't be niche anymore, the 30 month rule doesn't help eitherPerhaps better to go niche then...
Surely if they have teeth they are now ewes….so should be worth £20 more…not lessI asked a grader about the toother situation last week and was told 'If we dont check we don't know!' ... seemed a sensible enough approach. A young lad declared his and they were £20 down like for like
It’s a big con I think they just shove them through with the lamb teeth hoggsSurely if they have teeth they are now ewes….so should be worth £20 more…not less
Of course they do. It’s a bit like cattle that are over thirty months….It’s a big con I think they just shove them through with the lamb teeth hoggs
I'm not saying that doesn't happen but my experience is that they are checked at slaughter and any sheep with adult teeth up will be split and spinal cord removed. As you can imagine, this is significantly more work for the abattoir. It is, of course, a complete waste of time but if they don't do it and this is discovered by the onsite vet then they will face enforcement action. It’s a big con I think they just shove them through with the lamb teeth hoggs
@muleman will be getting his pickAA bulls not fancy trade on the webcam earlier on at ua stirling.
