Very moderate store lamb trade at Longtown today i thought. Like for like, they must be £20-£30/head back on the year.
I had 50 there but I haven’t heard how they did. Dropped them off at 7 this morning.
It’s all a bit rubbish, the fat trade is moderate at best. I’m glad I sold a lot early on. With the weather now it’s getting to the stage of just sell the last of them store and move on to next year’s lamb crop..

I think they were all very well sold the way everything is the way I look at things

Ashford today was stacked out with sheep.
All in all the hoggets were depressing with an SQQ of £2.16.
Over a thousand store hoggets sold to a selective trade. Better shaped ones in the £80's but long term around £60. Some that had been bought in October would have been less today.

The greatest concern was the ewes are much harder to sell. The reason being that there is a very large amount of frozen Australian mutton appeared on the market at a very low price. One large ethnic buyer said it had cut demand by up to 50%!! The average at Ashford was up but the ewes were mostly good quality.
Cows and friesian bullocks were very dear, but clean cattle were back a little.

Numbers are likely to stay high of stores and poorly finished hoggets as the wet and very poor turnips are forcing people to sell.

Considering how bad the trade for finished hoggs is, considering feeding them is a waste of time at best and how wet it is I thought they were a marvellous trade
Aye,i suppose so if you look at it that way. I had a handful of Tex x in near the end,got sold just before 4pm,and they still had 1st alley second penning to sell. £78 for near 40kg. Disappointed. Was hoping to get to £80 +. Dont think i will be taking any next week. When MaCleary is shouting "who wants them" after they are knocked down, its not much good for the seller.

How long do you think they’ll take to rattle through that Aussie mutton? Not ideal I’ve loads of culls to get rid of!

I know but what are you going to do with them? Would you pay near £80 for any store hoggs?
They haven’t hit the bottom yet i keep getting told we have £4.50 dead to look forward to before we get over this carry on.
Honestly everything was a wonderful trade more than I valued them at the way things are.
