“Hoggs are unfortunately continuing to follow the falling national trade. All classes were less on the week. Ewe trade however remains a little more buoyant. All classes were every bit as dear as last week and more are required to satisfy demand

Or else the sheep job is f@&£ed
Until they accept it was a sh!t idea we are stuck with this carry on and it’s not looking good
It wasn't a sh!t idea for the wealthy using the city to hide/launder their money offshore. All the other "benefits" were a smokescreen.
Didn't the EU want to curtail the activities of the city...and UK left just before it was going to be enforced?

Out of interest- do people pay for auctioneers to come and view stock that they are potentially looking to sell?
Had auctioneer out last week to look at store cattle valued them between 1000-1300 nothing specific but as a general
Those cattle aren’t going to that mart, i rang and asked for them to come look at cattle but at the end of visit left it that we would discuss as a family and let them know our decision. Email this morning saying any further valuations will be charged, at no point did we commit to selling them, another company also viewed the cattle they too aren’t getting them and the auctioneer said he was disappointed but would like the chance to view again in future if our plans changed, you can guess who’s going to be invited back
I hope you can write back to him saying his valuation was way out and his service will no longer be needed

£28 was what he give us for the lambs, when he rang for more I told him I would eat them all myself.
A few weeks ago I was in the pub and talking to some folk stopping in the local pods. He said he was called Machin and his family used to buy sheep......pub went quiet 🤣

Machin Lamb, they were a big outfit in their time, did a lot of live export from what I remember. Are they still going?

The main man was called Richard I think? To be fair, he was an absolute gentleman the few times I met him at the marts.

Fully agree with you about F&M, farmers got treated extremely unfairly by the majority of abattoirs, none have forgotten.

Richard died not long ago
The abattoir is under a different outfit but is mothballed

It would probably be Will, Richard’s son. Very different personality from what I’ve seen of him. He’ll learn to keep his mouth shut 🤣

Looking back at those f&m days. Take lmbs up to abp bathgate. Away at half 4 in the morning for the gates to open, still there for hrs on end and washing out. Hellish women vet sending you back to wash again, Jesus when you look back it was grim times and the price you got for the sheep was shocking. Remember that dealer RS who near sunk the cally have a shed full of hog's and they though it was among them. But it wasn't, lm sure he wished they had it. Those defo weren't the days for sure.

My abiding memory was having to tip every heavily pregnant ewe up for the vet to inspect before we could bring them home for lambing. Plus the disinfect carpet across the road.

Just had a quick look to see what trade for Hoggs was like today.

Gave up and went back down the hill after looking at the figures for the first two markets.........

Brecon SQQ 205.8 PPK ( down 18.9 ppk on the week )

A boat load of NZ lamb
Several boat loads of lamb both into the UK and EU country's that normally take our lamb like France.

Milk price is starting to drop by the looks of it with most dropping the price for March around 4ppl today with more drops likely which surely will mean a lot more dairy cows being culled before long.
