So are we meant to get £6 a kilo till the end of time….all food has gone up….lambs can’t be £120 forever
Theres a happy medium for everyone in the chain to make a £. How many aren’t buying new tractors as regularly now since they’ve jumped in price? How many cut down on fertiliser when it went dear? How many reduce/ look for other products when straw jumped in price. We have to keep the general public buying our product, once they’ve started buying something else it’s hard to get the custom back. Red meat sales are doing very well at the moment and the public are using local butchers more. At least they certainly are in my area.

I can see beef and lamb becoming a luxury item in 10-15 years time because there’s going to be virtually no one farming them in this country at the rate of where things are heading

No one can properly value lamb because store lambs were £35 and fat lambs £60 for what felt like eternity
What everyone should be asking is how long of a period of good prices do we need to pay back for all that shortfall?
Lambs haven’t been dear in the backend and summer they have rolled around that 260/70p live not very exciting, heavy lambs have been much dearer than normal they have been the ones in the mart reports making £130/40 but they needed weight to get there. Light lambs have been hopeless until November. The 300p live area has only been the last 6 weeks no need to get carried away thinking they are too dear.

Still waiting for it to hit £3 average down here

Well do you think more people (when the average age of farmers is 65+) will either go into or increase their suckler cows?
Finished cattle over 2k is only where they should of been 10 years ago
Personally I think they will slowly drop, even though weaned calves off marginal ground at £1000 doesn't seem to bad,as with all farming I think there maybe an increase in the larger herds on estates and large farms that are looking at the greening credentials but they won't produce the top dollar calves that you (and I) like looking at

I don’t even think they will on the larger farms or estates….Labour being the main reason
