Lot of money changed hands in Hereford market yesterday , couples and inlambers were good money as well . I went down to the fodder sale , saw round bale hay making £35 a bale ! ....didn't see the calves and weaned calves but I asked someone in the canteen what rhey were like and he just shook his head and said " I just don't understand it...how can they make it pay" !

Better buying the straw than the grain at harvest to store and sell look at this

The straw will be dearer than the grain this harvest by the look
Its very sad, how hard it is for the arable sector at the moment.

If you can imagine hoggs at £40 & cull ewes at £28 for good sorts not hill breeds. That is where arable is at the moment.

Please do anything you can to help them.

We can imagine it because we've had it ....be great if feed can drop back to it's proper level for a year or two just to give us all a chance.
Would it help if we could all take a bit of this cheap corn to avert them having a storage charge? 🤔

They seem a bit better off with the £650 a hectare sfi payments while I’m offered £8 per hectare
£260 per acre plus messing around with weeds. No crop to sell.

You only need to sell two lambs to match that & can still use your land to produce more lambs.

I'm voting with my feet, herbal leys, maybe grazing some cover crops, more sheep & more time spent with hedges & walls. Arable losses unsustainable.
