Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

But isn't that self fulfilling if the majority of cattle go deadweight, making live weight sales too small to be sustainable, at some point we will look back & think how dumb we were.
I understand the difference in price only too well but it's what we have brought on ourselves.
I understand the importance of marts but if you only have one holding number it's impossible to trade effectively.

Maybe so but 100 cattle at £200 less is a lot of money to me.
It is to anyone, we just need to support viable livestock markets whilst we can even if it is only with a percentage of stock, we all moan when local schools, shops, post offices, banks, garages etc close & are lost forever, as they always say "use it or lose it" !!

Selling store lambs you seldom are able to pull a tidy bunch of simular sheep together to be able to get a price in the market that would match the dw. Plus you have the standstill rule if your buying and shifting stock constantly. Merits for both it annoys me when people get onto their high horse about markets v DW. You have to make work what is best for you.

Edit. Fat lambs that were bought as stores

Maybe if marts are struggling they should try a little harder.not seen an auctioneer here for years but then there aren't any marts in Perthshire, fife or Angus anymore.
What happens when slaughter houses close because of destocking affecting through put & you have to lorry livestock 50 or 100 miles to the nearest abattoir.

In Sedge this morning heard ABP have jumped to 7.45! Any one confirm this?

27 months ago I bought my son 3 Angus x steers (baby calves) for his 15 th birthday.
They've been the bain of my life as they are like pet Labradors, always causing trouble etc.
He sold them this morning at Sedge for £1790 a piece, 700kg P+ may make an O-.
Concentrates only till 12 weeks nothing but grass since.
Can't take the stupid grin off his face 😆.

The problem is when people are short sighted enough to use the most convenient whatever not appreciating that they are lucky enough to still have a choice.
