My scanner told me that the later scans (so those likely to be selling stores) were well back.

I’m just going off what a dealer told me at the mart when I was picking sheep up he said they were on the whole down a good lump down the road no idea how accurate that is

Hell of a lot of smart and top draw lambs go through holmfirth tho.. never been a very good place to sell hill bred lambs or mules. I know a few people who only farm a few miles away yet cart there stock to skipton ,gisburn or bentham

No idea! The price fat lambs are at the moment has next to no bearing on what store lambs will be this backend, it’s what the fat trade is in the backend that dictates store trade

So what is everyone's theory on what is causing these record hogget prices? I've heard a theory that it is the Houthi rebels disrupting shipping meaning the NZ product is going to take too long to get to the UK ahead of Easter & EID so the retailers are panicking and stocking up on UK produce?
Or is it simply supply and demand from reduced UK flock and lack of hoggets coming to the market in a wet winter?

All the traditional selling patterns seem to have gone out the window these last few years. Fat trade September to March hardly ever moved much. Things different now

£8 x 23k (max weight) = £184...... I think they were quoting £ 7.80 last Friday for the start of this week..... At present it`s a bit dodgy selling dw as they seem to start stronger every week in the live job... Swales well over £180 at Hawes today for the top ones...!

Disagree. Often seen folk paying good money for stores when the fat trade is nothing special at the time
