Just been at Cheshire Show for the last 3 days, and never heard any rumours or anything to suggest WM were in difficulties. They had their usual trade stand and a few of their auctioneers were around the cattle lines.

Is the sale cancelled due to the same reason Derbyshire County Show have cancelled the cattle and sheep classes last minute?? That's due to licensing regulations that are out of their control, whatever that means.

Would it not have been polite to give a reason in the message sent out?:scratchhead:

Been told that the council want to build houses on the site and so have jacked the rent up and made it so its no longer viable to continue. Can guarantee that its correct but wouldn't be a massive surprise.

Last week they were blaming dairy cattle buyers for cash flow problems (went over 2 week payment date) before that it was fat stock purchasers. Fortunately I don't think I'm caught up in it, could be one or two retirements in jeopardy.

TBH it is a boil that needed lancing, hopefully to facilitate a new market?

What happened to chelford market?
The lease on the site ran out, and for some reason they couldn't/wouldn't renew it. This was at the time of the Middlewich site being planned, as Chelford operated for a year or 2 outside of their lease whilst they tried to get the plans passed. The Middlewich plan has gone very quite recently, rumour was that WM were waiting of a big buy out by a certain northern auctioneers in order to bank roll it, which hasn't materialised.
Irlams/Stobbarts, who own the lorry depot across the road, own the old Chelford site. It's now levelled and houses being built.
