Have you drilled any yet? Or still tamping!https://x.com/CommonsEFRA/status/1759954681378288106?t=-KDKOhelF0AlmE5jlr0_fA&s=08
Thought I'd put this here, perhaps growers would like to share their experiences of dealing with BS with the EFRA committee.
Not yet, still got some corn to drill on heavy land and only just got a wet spot on the last field to muck for beet.Have you drilled any yet? Or still tamping!
Drilled now? Ploughed in standing water on some of mine and drilled sat. This is the extent of our efforts. Tried the power Harrow on Friday. Too sticky, went home, 2 mm rain overnight again!View attachment 1170411

Little later than normal but not by a lot.Is this about normal time for you light land boys to start drilling? Seems a bit later than normal(?) I sprayed mine off on Friday but can’t imagine it will be dry enough to drill for another 3 weeks at least. 20th April seems to be becoming our norm around here…no seed anyway!
Good idea flatty, it just needs someone whose more tech savvy that me to add the links ect. That wants starting as another thread in Agricultural Matters
In an ideal world I’d finish by end of March but it never happens! Is this about normal time for you light land boys to start drilling? Seems a bit later than normal(?) I remember when the advice was as soon as possible after March 1st; when conditions allow. Who knows thesedays with these weather patterns and virus when is bestIn an ideal world I’d finish by end of March but it never happens!
Same with the narrow wheels, we always put them on but most people don’t seem to bother these days? I assumed maybe the monosem drills weren’t as sensitive as the mighty Stanhay Rallye?!It'll be interesting to see how your beet come @Heathland
I'm always dubious about drilling beet into damp ground.
In my mind beet needs to be drilled into a hazed out seedbed and then have atleast 24 hours dry weather post drilling to let the ground settle, something which isn't going to happen this year.
I drilled into damp ground last year and combined with crap weather post drilling I got hit hard with blackleg.
Also I've seen on neighbours poor establishment of the rows that are drilled into the tractor wheelings, I still use row crops but most seem to run wide normal tyres now and this year could be the year it catches them out.
Ive got a KV monopil and several run them in chunkies but I still fanny about on dual 13.6 tyres.Same with the narrow wheels, we always put them on but most people don’t seem to bother these days? I assumed maybe the monosem drills weren’t as sensitive as the mighty Stanhay Rallye?!
Snap. Have seen very poor beet behind wheels where others have done itSame with the narrow wheels, we always put them on but most people don’t seem to bother these days? I assumed maybe the monosem drills weren’t as sensitive as the mighty Stanhay Rallye?!
