Beet yields 2020

I added copper in with the fungicide last year, the only sulphur I added was in the form of epso top so not a fungicide form.

Weather it made a difference I dont know but my beet looked better and less diseased than many others the other side of the hedge but this could be varietal or timing ect.
how much epso did you use total?

5 kgs/ha per pass 1 or 2 passes with MN ect and twice in with the fungicides.

I'm putting nutrients on at the moment and it's a bugger to see where to drive.
I think there'll be some rum good yields about this year in some areas.

In recent months I have been able to get out on farm and listen to a number of our growers, exchanging views and more importantly listening to your concerns. Whilst there are a great many different opinions there are some common themes that resonate across all growers which we have tried to address.

Early indication of pricing: One thing many people have told me is that knowing a firm indication of a minimum price for the 2022/23 beet crop by the end of June will be a great help as you finalise cropping plans. This letter is designed to deliver that commitment so that people can make timely decisions.

It is important to emphasise that we are yet to reach a final agreement with NFU Sugar on the 2022/23 contract offer, although both sides are working very hard to do so. However, what I can do at this stage is share the latest proposal from British Sugar to NFU Sugar, to give you an indication of pricing.

Simple & guaranteed price improvement:Following a difficult 2020 crop we have worked hard to simplify our offer.

As a result we are;

• Proposing £25/t for new 1-year and 2-year contracts.

• Proposing to give our current Multi-Year contracted growers an opportunity to upgrade to these same prices by contracting for an additional year.

NB. if you upgrade CTE from the 2021 three-year contract, the additional, final year (2024) would be offered at £23.50/t.

• We have also retained a market-linked bonus to make sure that growers can continue to share in any further increases in sugar market prices.

Reduced risk: Many growers wanted British Sugar to recognise and share more in the risk from Virus Yellows (VY) and as a result we have;

• Strengthened our VY Assurance fund, taking more of the cost should VY occur again, raising the British Sugar contribution from 45% to 70% in total.

• Whilst we would encourage growers to manage this risk through the assurance scheme, we understand that some growers may want to manage the risk themselves or in grower groups, we have proposed giving a choice to opt-out in return for an additional 50p/tonne.

Introducing a new Local Premium: We are keen to promote and encourage local growing of sugar beet and to that end we have proposed an additional Local Premium for all growers up to 20 miles from their factory. Starting at £2/t for growers within one mile this will reduce on a linear scale down to £0.10/t at 20 miles.

In summary, while we are not yet in a position to issue an Offer to Grow at this stage, I wanted to reassure you that we are committed to making a formal offer in due course for the uncontracted 2022/23 one-year contract, as well as a two-year contract, which will be not less than our most recent proposal to the NFU Sugar Team.

We will continue to work with the NFU Sugar Team however, if we do not manage to reach agreement with NFU Sugar, we may need to obtain a determination of pricing for the 22/23 uncontracted tonnage from an independent third party. There are mechanisms in place to secure this. I want to reassure you that we will honour the above terms even if an independent third party determines pricing for 2022/23 which is lower than this. Once the price for 2022/23 has been agreed with the NFU or determined by an independent third party we will issue a formal Offer to Grow.

If you have any questions or comments, please speak to your British Sugar Contract Manager. I look forward to confirming the agreed offer for 2022/23 in due course.

Yours sincerely

He was a bit cagey, he said about 20% but then mentioned £24-£25 ton
Needs to be on all contacts as we are seriously pee'd off with beet
One year and 3 apparently, they are fully aware of how the growers feel and he said bs have pushed prices too far and they know unless they do something they won't have any growers.

One of his quotes was were willing to do what it takes to keep you growing beet!!!!! So hooefully the NFU can grow a pair and do what's needed to get the result the growers need especially now bs seem prepared to give a little long last.
