Dont buy a 3x3 coffin balerThank you all so much for your replies! I'll take on board everything you've all said. Much appreciated. I'll go to a few farm sales and see what they make first.
Does anyone know the difference between a standard d1010 and a d1010 silage if there is any?
A D1010 the stuffer runs constantly where as on an S, the stuffer will park if there’s not enough crop in the stuffer chamber and won’t trip till there is. An S also has a plastic lined stuffer chamber to make the crop flow smoother, I always used to take the plastic out anyway though as you don’t really need it in there on hay or straw.
Think there where some other small differences but forget what they where, buy as S model if you can or a BB940 if you must have 3x3.
Or you could have my BB950
Thanks, your Baler maybe a little out of my budget. Only want it to do a couple of hundred acres of our own straw. Going to look at it now anything in particular I should be looking at/out for. Baler is an s model with very low bale count.
Look for play in the knotter drive shaft, depending on yr depends which shaft it has there are 3 versions of it and factory updates on at least 1 of them. Also be aware that the planet gears on the stuffer/knotter drive are no longer available and are very scarce/expensive second hand !.
4Are these 4 or 6 string balers?
The
D4000

4750
4700.
I had the case version of mengeleView attachment 777682View attachment 777680 Used to run a d4000 no major problems other than what you would expect from a £6000 baler 300kg straw bales all day long spend a bit of money on it every year used to bale 2000 bales of hay and straw
Run it for 6 years then sold it for £8000
Now run a mengele 540 which is a 120 x 70 5 string paid £7000 for it and keep spending a bit every year keeping it going doing about 2500 bales a year on it very cheap baling I'd say
Would love to have a Mf 187 but I doubt I'd get a decent one for 8k so irl keep the mengele going for a bit longer
Chopping probablyDoes anyone know the difference between a standard d1010 and a d1010 silage if there is any?
Chopping probably
they will advise you to buy what they have in stock (stuck with)Ring one of the independent big baler specialists and ask their advice. I reckon they will tell you to keep clear of welger and krone. You will need something that spares are easily available for. Massey are a good baler and cheaper on parts.
