What about pure nz jerseys there supposed to be the toughest cow out there with high fertility while yield per cow would be low it could be solved by upping numbers my concern with american and dainish jerseys is they have come from indoor tmr systems not on grass based

Nz Jersey wake up thinking or new ways to die. They are in no way the toughest out there. Even my hardcore Jersey breeding mate will admit that it's a battle to keep them alive

They really can be quite inventive. I had an R2 heifer a few years back that must have been trying to scale a big earth hedge and she'd slipped but got caught with her head in the V of a tree where two branches split and she managed to hang herself.

Most just try to explode if you show them more than 3 clover leaves a day.

You need to pick good uddered bulls when using LIC but they have all got a lot better in the last decade. Pure NZ jerseys can be very small as well

I like the Danish ones, they're just a good middle of the road sort of animal. Most won't win you prizes for being pretty and they won't milk themselves to death like some American cows.

Mostly kiwi x bulls , but have used sexed Jersey this year and probably not used any Jersey straw for 3 years, seems to work okay

I was speaking to a sciencey person about this today, I never have to really worry about bloat in my cows, even grazing red clover and lucerne, is it a acclimatisation thing, breeding or something else?

I've never had much luck with pure jerseys. Several were chronic lame cows, which goes against everything I know about jerseys. They always seemed to struggle with carrying condition too.

You don't get the prettiest herd, but I only have 2 pure cows now. Everything is either a KiwiX, Guensey, Normandie or Ayrshire cross.
