Best maternal rams

Thinking of putting a maternal ram on Texel cross ewes. Hoping to increase scanning %. Any suggestions on which breed to use? Thanks

What are you currently scanning at? What do you want to achieve aside from lifting scanning %?

You can pick breeds for easier lambing, worm resistance, maternal ability, wool shedding etc. You could go Lleyn/Romney/Aber types/Exlana/Easydams etc. If you want a serious lift in scanning % then a Cambridge would also be a shout.

There's a lot of maternal ram types out there now- probably best doing a list of what you want on your farm with the probable understanding that the ewe lamb offspring won't be quite as shapely as the Texel x ewes.

I like Lleyn as a ewe, we have moved towards them as crosses with several breeds and also as pures and I really like them, the original pures are 4 crop now, all are still here and I cannot fault them as ewes.
You will take a bit of a hit on pures as finished lambs, but if you're crossing them to a part terminal ewe that hit will be reduced.
They seem to suit most terminal sires pretty well too from what I've seen.
