whats the best packer roller or does it really depend on soil conditions and type.

mainly light land here but have the odd fields of clay.

we have the old style Kuhn hr250 harrow which does block up if I hit a wet spot.

I think the maxipacker type with spikes look best but do you have a lot of wear on scrapers? and how long before they wear out?

my second preferred would be a flexycoil type I think

3rd possibly a tyre packer? but it looks to me if it gets wet your stuffed?

I bought a Guest Maxi-packer to go on a Kuhn harrow under a drill some years ago. It is better than the original small one but will still bulldoze on sandy patches if scrapers are not freshly adjusted up.
If not carrying a drill, I'd go with a heavy duty flexicoil type.

how often do you go through scrapers on a maxi packer also how long does the roller itself last ive seen a few worn out at sales

will a flexi coil sink with a drill on? 90% of my land is very light any way so if theyre no good in heavy land wouldn't bother me but I think they'd sink a lot on light land. how would they compare to the original old Kuhn roller like a cage roller I think they call them. sometimes our kkk flicks that much up with cage type roller that it stops rotating and bulldozes but this is 8mph I think. it sinks in so much that its flicking that much soil back over the top.

We used to have a flexicoil on our 4m kuhn accord combi drill but broke it a couple of times due to weight of drill. Moved onto a kuhn maxi packer and 95% of the time don't have a problem with it not turning. This is mainly on sand land, straight onto unpressed ploughing. However tractor has a sumo tyre press and terra tyres so nearly all 4m is run on before power Harrow.
Hardly any wear on scrapers or packer.
Think Andy Guest's maxi packer is meant to be even better on sand (bigger teeth and stagger)

A Guttler roller is the definitive answer to packer roller problems and as a very wise independent dealer from the Alberbury Rd, Ford, Shrewsbury said if you think they are too expensive then your not having enough trouble and sadly he was right!! Have run one ever since and never regretted it once got over the shock of the cost

Guttler every time, yes they are expensive but they make a massive difference. We had one on a shakerator and managed to part exchange the old packer at Brocks. You could sell your existing packer if it's any good, it does have a value.

Alister do they bolt on to a shaft. Could you run two after the coulter on rape seeder to press seed in , have zone packer then a Suffolk coulter could pull a trailing press with rings just to press the rows. , was bargin of the year £ 200
