I still have some of my grandfathers hand turn auger bits, must be a fair age, but they can quickly make hole through a railway sleeper or a telegraph pole. I suppose it depends how many holes a day you want to drill

What drill? Is the bit sharp? I’ve got a Milwaukee 18v drill and 20mm auger bit that goes through strainers effortlessly.

I let my neighbour borrow my one of these to drill all the way through a wooden post for a bolt through hanger (he cuts his own when he cuts down a tree). Normally he takes a generator & corded drill but found he’d ran out of petrol. Think he was a bit shocked how easy it managed it. Its a bit of an animal!

I use 1 of these with an auger bit.
Bit more power than standard drill.
Took a while find a long sds auger bit for bigger gate posts but standard 230mm bit will just do normal posts.
Got a 460mm 1 now so no issues😀

I too use a corded drill. The portable generator goes in the tractor bucket. I'd rather be over powered than under powered! The drill takes the bit OK.

I just use one of these in the cordless drill
I got a larger one to drill receiver holes for the slip bolt of the gate as they don’t pull themselves through as much as an auger and clear the hole better but for going right through the post the auger is king.

I agree, they don’t clear themselves very well so you have to pull the drill out when about half way through the post to clear the wood shavings but for the odd post I do a year there good enough

I’ve found by drilling three overlapping holes a bit at a time with a flat bit I can make a slotted hole. Less requirement to adjust the hangers as they bed in & wear.
