I let my neighbour borrow my one of these to drill all the way through a wooden post for a bolt through hanger (he cuts his own when he cuts down a tree). Normally he takes a generator & corded drill but found he’d ran out of petrol. Think he was a bit shocked how easy it managed it. Its a bit of an animal! What drill? Is the bit sharp? I got a larger one to drill receiver holes for the slip bolt of the gate as they don’t pull themselves through as much as an auger and clear the hole better but for going right through the post the auger is king.Extra Long Flat Wood Drill Bit

I just use one of these in the cordless drill
I agree, they don’t clear themselves very well so you have to pull the drill out when about half way through the post to clear the wood shavings but for the odd post I do a year there good enoughI got a larger one to drill receiver holes for the slip bolt of the gate as they don’t pull themselves through as much as an auger and clear the hole better but for going right through the post the auger is king.
I’ve found by drilling three overlapping holes a bit at a time with a flat bit I can make a slotted hole. Less requirement to adjust the hangers as they bed in & wear.I got a larger one to drill receiver holes for the slip bolt of the gate as they don’t pull themselves through as much as an auger and clear the hole better but for going right through the post the auger is king.
