don't have Holsteins simples. though we do have a hip lift just in case one goes down in the yard. we keep it well oiled as they go rusty if not used. Not having a go at the OP or anyone on here but am I alone in finding it arse backwards that the majority of the industry breeds bigger and bigger cows and then invents ways of keeping them healthy ?

I agree that the more productive animals are! The more TLC they need, and more looking after! However this was a 50 ltr mid lactation young cow, that went through a cubicle! She was sitting comfortable, but had some swelling, mid way down her back! Thus not wanting to abuse her! One of the big pluses of having a big framed animal is that we have no calving issues! I cannot remember when we last had a downer cow from a bad calving! Accidents will always happen when you have livestock! I am mainly asking if the easycow lift is better and easier than the net! One or two other ideas have been aired! All ideas are worth exploring!

Exactly!
It's like when you see adverts for cows for sale, they say something like from a 10000litre herd! So what, I could get my jerseys to do 10000l if shovelled enough food into them, but then I would need a vet, a mixer wagon, another tractor, another employee and I wouldn't have any spare stock to sell every year

Looks like all you have done with that strap is lift the cow. If you let her down enough to encourage her to take weight on her legs and she does, I would imagine the whole lot goes slack and falls off, unlike the hip lift, which will catch her if she sags and allow her to get the weight back on her legs again. Perhaps I am wrong?
