Hi All,

First wanted to say I've been reading this forum for some time and it is very helpful so thank you.

Second, wanted to ask what are the options I have to scare off birds and which one have you found most effective?

Thank you,
Ben

Advertise for shooters on pigeon shooting forum.ive had several of there.i interrogate them first so I know all about them then leave it to them when they know the rules.kicked one out who insisted on driving round margins but apart from that they have all been greatful

Thanks Nick, I was thinking more in the direction of bird-like kites or sound scare measures, anyone had experience with those? how effective are they?

Gas guns are ok depending where you are.ive had them vandalised and stolen along with gas and batteries.had kites too which last five minutes unless stolen again, yes I’ve had em nicked.they regularly break the wing supports spinning round and round and eventually get tangled up

Exactly my dilemma Nick! So if kites don't last and guns are being vandalized/ issues with neighbors, is there no solution beside hiring someone to shoot the birds??

Don’t hire them.get onto a pigeon shooting forum and plenty will volunteer.just interrogate then with an interview to find out all about them first.never know some dodgy sod may case your farm and nick stuff.dont be affraid to ask anything, you will soon suss people out

I would suggest a combination of kites, flags, gas gun spinning thingy's, and rockets are as effective as any single device for us. Almost as important is to move them all about on a regular basis. when on rape this is more or less a full time occupation for one man and a quad bike in the winter. Shooters really help but tend to have a few shots, scare the pigeons off ,pack up when they don't come back and when the car goes out of the field the bu&&ers start drifting in again. Shooting on winter rape can be quite challenging and tests the patients!
