Block glue

I'm new to using the tube type glue and I'm putting it on the block and the foot.
Maybe it’s the cardi in me coming out and im
Not using enough glue? How many blocks out of a tecknovit tube would you get

I use the powder and the liquid, mix it together and let it set. To speed the job up use the wife's hair dryer!
she’s only just about forgiven me for stealing her weigh scales and then the batteries out of the new ones during calving. Think hair dryer with odour la foot would send me straight to the sofa for a few nights

I was having issues with bovibond. You have to use a roughing disc on the claw first, if you don’t it’s hit and miss on staying. Hoof trimmer uses hooftite and said it’s the same.

Its annoying

Used to use hoof it as I inherited a bunch of it. It will stick to anything provided you mix correctly and have enough thickness of it between block and claw. It slows things down having to mix it

Anyone else having trouble or just me? Gone to use the bovibond type as find it’s a lot quicker but having crap retention after a really good run. I’m warming the blocks up with the burner first. Wondering if they’re too hot and the glue just goes off instantly when I put it onto the block?
do other put the glue on the cow then the block?
It’s like it’s just not bonding together
Kept the glue on top of the water heater once, went off way too quick. Hot air gun to dry the hoof only after "etching" with a hoof knife. 30 secs holding on 3+ minutes before lowering foot seems to work here. Bovibond wasn't keeping between uses very well for me, technovit now okay or maybe I'm using it more often?

Stopped using bovibond after having too many tubes split. Been using the green stuff from G Shepherd for a while now. Rough the claw up a bit with the end of the knife so its a bit like grooved concrete, hot air gun if its cold or hoof is wet. I let the very first bit of glue from a new tube drop on the ground as i’ve found it's not always mixed at the right ratio & won‘t set properly.

Had same issues with bovibond a couple of years ago. Changed to BD Supplies own brand and been great. Have to prise a lot off as holding on too well. Get about 5-6 blocks per tube. In winter put glue over Rayburn rack before getting cow into crush and don’t hang about getting the block on the hoof!

Am I the only amateur who used the box of 10 blocks and glue from molevalley for 50 quid? Is that a dear way to buy 10 blocks and glue?

if it’s the type that comes with it’s own little tub for each one and a set amount of glue then I’d say yes it’s expensive. If you put the amount in like dermotec 90 then possibly cheaper

Yes. The glue finishes way before the tips and nozzles. I did the same years ago, changed to BD supplies and you order any things individually , I think I went 2 years ordering glue only as I had enough spare tips and blocks!

Hoofshop
tube of glue with 8 tips £21.50
blocks from 40p up. postage around £7-8.
I use the TP blue standard. They are a bit more flexible than the wooden ones and do not wear out.
I like the wooden ones wearing out, normally coincides with the foot issue resolved. But will sure look at hoofshop. Every £ is a prisoner and it seems I may have let a few slip

I just use cow clog original. Around £48 from local farmers cop type store. Easy to do, just mix sachet of powder and bottle of liquid and apply when starting to set, keep glue bottle in warm water whilst trimming and preparing hoof. And glue. No hairdirer no blowtorch. Seems to work, if any come off quickly it is usually because cow is being a twit when glue is setting. Tried the new cow clog glue with gun and mixer applicator. Only had 1 box, back to the original.

Demotec 90/95 .buy blocks separate. Buy demotec in one litre drum and then powder in 1.5kg tub and mix as much as you want in lids from Marker sprays. Use an old butter knife to mix. Reuse top and knife simples. Very Good on wooden and rubber blocks but not so amazing on the plastic blocks.
