Bomford hedgecutter hydraulic problem

Hello
Our old buzzard 8 metre has developed an annoying fault, it intermittently moves the head angle on its own, some days it does it a lot some days hardly at all, it only moves it a small amount.
Last year we put a fresh joystick in the controls and a fresh wire from the joystick to the ecu.
Could it be a problem in the spoil block or possibly the ecu

Can we take the head angle spice apart to investigate?

Any and all advice appreciated

Can you swap 2 solenoid, or even just the plugs, see if the problem moves or stays with the spool
The problem with that is we would have to go and hedgecut and warm it up then as soon as it does it swap some wires, but then itl be very hard to hedgecut and some days it does it once then never again all day

The old Bomfords used to have a bit of slack in the ram seals on the end of the piston.Could have been to give the head a bit of float or to make it easier to remove the pin ,that changes the head angle.

If your head is pivoted near the centre it would appear to move as the c.o.g went over center.

A reseal won’t do any harm however the head can move in any position, it always moves the same direction

It could easily be, I can’t recall ever reselling that ran. It doesn’t weap and the movement is short and sharp, could this be the seal?
Could be the piston seal leaking one way,you wouldn’t see it as the oil would pass into the other side of the ram.

But can you not swap over and use away at it, to see if the problem moves with the loom? I know the controls will be different, but needs must, would be great to know if its electric or mechanical before you start spending money.

We put a new joystick in last year as the old one was worn out, and a new cable as it was also starting to wear through so I rather certain I have no problems from the controls to the ecu.
I could rig a bulb up to the solenoid so when it does it if it’s electrical it would light up the bulb in the cab?

The valve is a special unit built by Vickers and there are no spares available for it. You can swap coils over and swap the two pairs of hyd pipes over to see if the fault moves. I won't hurt to change the ram seals as this will be cheaper than a new spool valve.

I have a bomford turner hawk 6.5 hedge cutter which occasionally the arm won’t lift up. Allows me to lower the arm/ move the header. But won’t allow me to extend the boom or lower it. And seems very slow on movement. I’ll leave it for maybe a day and it will work again for a few hours. Then same again. Fluids all look good and no leaks. Any ideas people ?
