Boominator Nozzle

Has anyone on here used one of these? Not the cheap plastic copies....

I am likely to have a wee contract for spot spraying under PV panels next year, and I am thinking a single sided Left or Right Boominator nozzle would be ideal if the single nozzle will throw the output 2.5m one side, from the jet. Will it? www.boominator.com

The idea is to drive along the panels and throw the output under the panel from the higher end side of the sloped panels.

I've got a double sided boominator nozzle on an ATV sprayer and get a good 6.5-7m width out of it. Not quite as good as a proper boom but not bad, definitely good enough for roundup. You should definitely get 2.5m out of a single sided nozzle but they need a good pump to keep up with them. The ratings on the cheap diaphragm pumps are optimistic by a factor of about 4!

We have used a pair of these for many years on an atv and in ideal conditions with no wind will spray up to 4m each side. Very useful where obstacles prevent a boom being used.

I had a Boominator nozzle and it certainly throws the chemical out to width. I would say that 'throw' is about the right description though, as the droplet size is very coarse. The kill with Thistlex/Pastor type products is very sporadic, with plenty growing back the next year, IME.

Might be OK for glyphosate under panels though?

Ditto the above from @neilo

I would add that I'm not sure it'd be good enough with glyphosate either, certainly on the more difficult perennial weeds you'll likely be tackling under panels.

Many thanks all.

The intention is to use contact herbicide, probably an MCPA/CMPP type mix on a mainly thistle and nettle target. Cannot abide Roundup as all it does it create a dead area that repopulates with more weed species! AND, I graze sheep under the panels ;)

Gut instinct is to go for a heavy water loading as it is in effect spot spraying, off my ultra compact tractor. Pump is a twin diaphragm shurflo I have been using for a long time. Usually used on a 3m boom with 150/l/ha setting for herbicides.

Crap site for locating a dealer, but I'll ask my local spray kit suppliers if they can help with with a Pentair nozzle. Thanks for the pointer.

One advantage of the panels, is as long as the wind is not actually blowing down the line of the panels, it is remarkably pleasant and calm in there. The sheep are hugely content... :)Got a bunch of Easy Care ewes here this time as an experiment, and whilst they are hugely ugly, they would appear (in theory) to suit the PV lifestyle perfectly!! Tups go in end of the month and then home Feb.
